Wise County hosts some of the most spectacular annual events in the state of Texas! Decatur Trade Days - Decatur
We're home to numerous Heritage Festivals, Pioneer Days, car shows, and the famous Boyd Cook-off. Some of these annual events have been going on for more than 30 years!
MONTHLY
Decatur Trade Days is held monthly at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Decatur. Event includes all types of vendors, foods, and animals.
Cruise Nights – Decatur
The first Saturday in the months of May-October (excluding July), cars cruise the Decatur square from 4:00-8:00 pm. Streets are closed to traffic and stores stay open late. This event also includes a car show with awards in 20 classes, including Classics, Antiques, and Hot Rods. Registration for the car show is 4:00-7:00 pm, with judging at 7:00 pm and awards at 8:00 pm.
FEBRUARY
Chili Supper - Chico
Held the second Saturday in February, this event serves as a fundraiser for the Community Volunteer Fire Department and includes food and live entertainment.
Annual Swap Meet - Decatur
Decatur’s Annual Swap Meet is sponsored by the Wise County Antique Auto Club. Event includes swap meet, vendors, and a car show. Held at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds.
APRIL
Main Street Easter Event - Decatur
Decatur Main Street sponsors this Easter celebration the Saturday before Easter. Event includes an egg hunt at the First United Methodist Church playground, a fun jump, face painting, a petting zoo, train rides, and pictures with the Easter Bunny.
MAY
Boyd Cookoff - Boyd
Benefitting the Parks and Recreation Board, this event includes a parade, live music, vendors, an auction, and of course judging of foods such as chili, beans, and brisket.
Butterfield Stage Days - Bridgeport
The second weekend in May the city of Bridgeport celebrates the town's reason for existence--the Butterfield Overland Mail Stagecoach. A bridge was built in order for this stagecoach to cross the Trinity River, thus initiating the establishment of the city of Bridgeport. Event includes carnival rides, booths, vendors, a parade, and PRCA rodeo.
JUNE
Pioneer Days - Alvord
The weekend long event commerates the city's history and includes Friends of the FFA cook-off, 4-H Kids Zone Alvord Public Library's Dominoes in the Park, Shorty Wheelis Fish Fry Scholarship fundraiser, food booths, and live music. Held in Elm Creek Park.
Annual Barbeque - Chico
Held the second Saturday in June, this event serves as a fundraiser for the Community Volunteer Fire Department and includes food and live entertainment.
Chisholm Trail Days - Decatur
Started in the '70s and celebrating western heritage, this event is held on the third Saturday in June. Event includes a petting zoo, a fun jump, train rides, pony rides, hay rides, stagecoach rides, kids games, craft vendors, cowboy poetry, a chuckwagon exhibit, gunfighters, homemade ice cream contest, kids stickhorse rodeo, fiddle competition, hamburger supper, and live entertainment.
Homecoming - Greenwood
The first Sunday in June, the Greenwood community gathers for fellowship and food. Event includes meal after church and new officer election.
JULY
Fourth Fest - Runaway Bay
Fireworks over Lake Bridgeport in Runaway Bay is a day long festival. Event includes a golf tournament, a parade with golf cart and antique car entries, food and craft booths, bounce house and Lions' Club train for the kids, National Guard rock climbing wall, raffle, Honor Guard leading the national anthem, live entertainment, and fireworks over Lake Bridgeport at dusk.
SEPTEMBER
Coal Miner Heritage Festival - Bridgeport
In celebration of the city's heritage, the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce and Bridgeport Historical Society co-sponsor this annual event in September. Event includes live entertainment, a coal mining display, antique tools, a blacksmith, arts and crafts, vendors and food booths, and a car show.
Main Street Festival - Paradise
The Paradise Historical Society sponsors this event on the last Saturday in September to raise funds for the Veterans Memorial Park in Paradise's downtown park. Event includes vendors, food booths, auction, a quilt show, and live music.
OCTOBER
Fall Festival - Alvord
The city of Alvord gathers in mid-October for a fall festival that includes arts and crafts, vendors, music and a pumpkin giveaway.
Fall Festival - Greenwood
The annual Greenwood Fall Festival is held the second Saturday in October with proceeds benefitting the Wise County Extention Agency and Greenwood R-H. Event includes a parade, children's games, craft booths, game and food booths.
Cruisin' Days - Newark
The third Saturday in October, the Ladies Auxiliary hosts this event with proceeds benefitting the Newark Fire Department. Event includes a kick-off parade, games, booths, concessions, Mr. and Ms. Cruisin' Days Pageant, a cake auction, and a dance.
NOVEMBER
Thanksgiving Lunch - Greenwood
The Friday before Thanksgiving, Greenwood community members gather at the Greenwood Fire Hall for a lunch feast.
Lucky 7 - Decatur
Friday after Thanksgiving, merchants throughout the city offer varying discounts, 7:00 am-7:00 pm.
DECEMBER
Wise County Toy Run - Decatur
On the first Saturday in December, the Wise County Toy Run collects new and unwrapped toys to benefit Wise County charities. Event includes a 50/50 drawing, trailer raffle, auction, bike show, free lunch for the participants, and Biker Santa. Visit Wise County Toy Run, for details.
Christmas on the Square - Decatur
Held on the first, second, and third Saturdays in December. The first Saturday is the Moonlight Madness parade at 6:00 pm, the second Saturday is Cowboy Christmas and the third Saturday is Mistletoe and Motorcycles. Event includes Christmas Carriage Rides in the historic district, carolers, UNT Jazz ensemble, kids activities throughout the square, and stores stay open late.
